Thread: Windows Explorer too slow.

    Kenny Guest

    Windows Explorer too slow.

I had a Win2000 server with many XP Prof Workstations.
Recently the login takes quite long (around 2 minutes) to show the desktop.
And now, those desktops are quite slow too. Quite slow to open the My
Computer and Printer and Faxes. Sometimes failed to open the "Properties" of
    the printers and needs reboot.
But when I unplugged the network cable, the "Properties" of the printers, My
Computer and Printers and Faxes will prompt out quickly.
Can anyone tell me what seems the problem is??

    Thanks.
    Kenny.

Are you using ISP DNS? It is better to use an internal DNS. Or this search

Thanks for your help. Actually the server is not connected to Internet. How
    to check/configure the DNS settings??

    Re: Windows Explorer too slow.

I had already reset the switches and we did not have router as this segment
of network did not access internet. However, users complain that the login
and printing takes quite long time or sometimes no response. But if I
unpluged the network cable, workstation will be faster than before. Any
    clues??

    Thanks.
