| save files from MAC to a windows share fails
I have a windows 2003 R2 domain environment in native mode. One of my users has a windows xp workstation and a mac laptop running Leopard. I have a shared folder on the server where all domain users have Full Shared and Modify NTFS permissions. When a user logs on to his XP workstations he does not have any problems creating new files in the shared public folder on the server, but when he accesses the same share using his MAC (types smb://server_ip/share) he gets prompted for his domain user name and password. After he authenticates, he can open/read any of the files in the share, but as soon as tries to save/copy any file over 10kb he getts an error on his mac 'the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items' and copy fails. Files under 10kb get copied from his mac to the shared folder without any errors. Disk quotas are NOT enabled on the server. Also when the error pops up on the MAC I don't see any warnings / errors or audit failures on the server. Installing File Services For Macintosh on the server didn't make any difference. Disabling Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always) security policy on the server didn't make any difference. This problem does not exist if he tries to save any size file to his XP workstation from his MAC over the network. Am I the only one with this problem? What would be the next troubleshooting step? |

The windows sharing has not thing to do with Mac sharing. Event you have created windows sharing and assign proper permission, you also need to create share for Mac. Also by default the Mac sharing permission is read only. |

I did try MAC shares, but ended up with the same result. I don't think this is a permision issue. Something else is wrong |

I have the same problem. I cannot write to an XP box, either, however. Ditto. Exactly the same problem for me using 10.5.2. We are not alone: http://discussions.apple.com/thread....sageID=7004702 http://www.macwindows.com/leopard.html#010908c Anyone got any answers to this one or will we all have to wait for 10.5.3 |

I had the same problem and this worked for me: Check the volume size of the share on the windows server, either from the MAC by connecting to the share and hitting the "eye" symbol, or from windows by right clicking properties on the drive the share is on. It seems that if the size reported is over 1TB you will not be able to write files to the share. Move the share to another volume that is below 1TB and you should be ok. When trying to write to the SMB share check the console log on the MAC and look for the message "allocater race detected" right after the write fails. This message goes away when writing to a smaller share. The volume limit for OSX 10 is under 1 TB but I wouldn't have thought this would have anything to do with shared volumes. |

I have a user that has been getting this for the past couple of months. We have always had the same Windows 2003 Standard Server that he has connected to. The data share has a total of 1.27TB with 383GB available, he is using a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 There are other Mac's on the network that seem to have had a similar issue but it does not seem to be consistent. The error that he gets on his Mac reads - Copy: The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for . He says that subsequent retries usually causes it to copy. Not sure why all of sudden these errors have started to occur. Any additional information would be appreciated. I will gather more information and update. The user accesses the share by authenticating with his username/password which is setup within active direcotry. I believe that the user is in a group that has full control of the share. If I find that this is not the case, do you recommend as a test that I add his user specifically with full access? |

so check share permissions and filesystem permissions for the user this guy on the mac is connecting to the share as. Guest? Authenticated user? Mac signing on to some AD you have installed? You don't have any details other than the error. Provide more. |

"testing" with shares and filesystems have become hard to debug. It'd be easier for you to state, for absolute certainty, of who the mac user shows up as when windows deals with it, and then make certain of the group and/our user permissions on both the share and filesystem are set for that user. The easiest I've found, is to create a NEW share on a NEW folder and have only administrators (so you can edit perms) and his permissions listed. If he gets denied, it's not who you think it is. |
