Jobs hang in print queue win 2003 standard

I have set up Win 2003 standard server as a print server, and one of the
required hotfixes, knowledge base article 934885,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934885
is required to prevent the print jobs from hanging up in the queue. I have
tried the work arounds but it requires that you restart the computer, or the
print spooler, every time you print a job. The bottom of the article requires
that I submit a request, to microsoft, for the hotfix (which I have done
twice) and they will respond within 8 business hours. NO REPLY!! How do I
work around this, or obtain the hot fix. Any help is appreciated.

They said 8 business hours, which might mean 9 am PDT + 8 hours rather than
from the moment you submitted the web form. You can also call and open a
support incident, in the past PSS would insist you provide a credit card
when you first call, but then not charge anything because you're asking for
help with a known issue, ymmv.

RE: Jobs hang in print queue win 2003 standard

As I am having the same problem too, and I have to restart the print spooler
ervery morning and it is fine for the whole day. Anyway I have tried every
thing from my research you name it including the website you mentioned. And
yesterday I did removed all unnecessary drivers from server properties, see
how I go this time.
My situation:
1X HP 4300N - this one is fine
1X HP 4350dtn - this one is giving me headache.

Cheers

Solution

SOLUTION: Turn OFF Bi-Directional on the printer driver properties on the Print Server for that queue. It was just a guess on our part, but it worked.

This happened randomly on a few queues (no idea why) and it works every time.

Good luck, everyone!
