| Server 2008 evaluation setup
Hello, I am just installing the newest WS 2008 RC1 and I am stuck at login screen as administrator. It asks me to insert new password and confirm it but it does not matter what I enter the message is: "Unable to update password. The value provided for the new password does not meet the length, complexity, or history requirements of the domain." What is expected password length and complexity? Jack |

Jack, did you install it as a member server of an existing domain? If so, password restrictions are imposed by the Password Policy settings on the domain level GPO... hth Marcin |

No. I am trying to install it inside Virtual PC just for testing. I had no other opportunity to set up anything yet. That password screen is the first screen I see after the initial software install and reboot. Hello Jack, Try small, capital, number or non-alphabetic and do not use more then 3 of the existing account name and at least 14 characters. Dear Jack, Try using uppercase mixed with lower case letters, symbols and numbers, and it should be atleast 12-14 charracters in lenght. You know, by default when you domain controller, the default domain policy-security settings-accounts settings and password policy settings-password must meet the complexity requirement is enabled. So your password must be complex. After you login, you can edit the default domain policy and set it to disabled. But Note that it is strongly recommended in a production environment.
