| Windows Server 2003 VM joining a domain RPC fails
Hello, I have a test machine that I am setting up to things like SMS and Sharepoint. I have installed VMWare Server and created a virtual machine of Windows Server 2003 RC2. I can connect to the internet and download updates through its Bridged networking for it but I can not join a domain from the virtual machine. I get the following error, "The following error occured attempting to join the domain "xxxxxx": The remote procedure call failed and did not execute" From what I can tell I don't think that it is a VMWare issue but something to do with windows network. There any way to trouble shoot why I am getting this? I don't notice anything in the Logs about this error. Thanks for any help that you can give. |

Did you install VMWare Tools? If so, you need to remove its Shared Folders option (Control Panel/Add&Remove/VMWare Tools/Change, then put a big red X on Shared Folders). Reboot and you should be good to go! (Shared Folders allows that drag&drop from a virtual server to your own desktop. It's just as easy to do start, run, \\virtualservernameorIP\c$ from your host PC! ) "spectreoflight" wrote: > Hello, I have a test machine that I am setting up to things like SMS > and Sharepoint. I removed the Shared folders Option from the VMWare tools, but I am still getting the same error when I try to join a domain on the virtual machine. Any more ideas? Thanks. |

Is there anything 'eventful' in the server's event logs? Or anything in the event logs of the domain controller you're trying to contact? Thanks.- Hide quoted text - > > - Show quoted text - From what I can tell, I don't see anything eventful in the logs, the only thing that could relate to it are some success Security audit logs when I enter my user name to join the domain, it sends back a sucessful audit. On the DC I didn't notice anything come up on the event logs pertaining to the name and IP of the machine I am trying to add. |

On a second look, on the domain controller I see some Security Audit logs that show a Authentication Ticket sent at the time i try to join the domain, but right after there is a service ticket sent. Also, for some back ground, we are running 4 physical sites, and at each site there are DC's on 1 is the primary while the others are secondary. the users and computers at those sites when they log into the domain, their respective controller for that site hands the request. In my instance here, I notice that when I am trying to join the domain, I am requesting it from the secondary DC here at my location. The DC here at this location is also running, ISA Server 2004 to filter connections for the bunch of Thin Clients that we are running to our Terminal Server. So, thats some background. I was able to add some Windows XP machines to the domain a few days ago with no problems here at this same site. yet when I try this Windows Server, its giving that error. Thanks again. |
