    Ping Request Time Out sometimes

Hi, I have a windows 2003 server, and 3 sql servers each in a separate dell
    server.

So we are talking about 4 physical servers.

The 3 sql server send backups to a server at the same time every 30 min. for
some reason 2 sql servers can write the backup, but the third sometimes can
and sometimes don't, if i make a continuos ping i get request ping timeout
during the backup, after the backup fail, the ping start responding. Any
    ideas.

    Hello Wilson,

Are the servers all on the same subnet? What about the NIC's on the servers,
all actual drivers installed? Also the switches can make problems with configuration
settingson it. Do you use multihomed servers?

    Best regards

    Thanks for your reply.

I have 2 vlan the 3 sql servers are on the same vlan, but the backup is in a
different valn, the 4 servers can comunicate without a problem, and server
that can't write, sometimes it can. I don't if there is an overload in the
incoming process that rejects additional data incoming.

The NIC drivers were installed from the dell server companion CD.

The switches where the servers are conected has the same configuration, but
if you tell me what configuration could cause this behavior to check it.

sorry for my ignorance, but don't know what is a multihomed server. if you
can post a link to read about it and answer your question.

check for new version on Dell website

check that all ports are configured the same and some switches need fixed
    configurations instead of autosensing

1 server, 2 NIC's and 2 different ip addresses from different subnets

Re: Ping Request Time Out sometimes

I will update the drivers tomorrow.

I will check the switches ports configuration.

The server is not multihomed server.

I will let you know the result tomorrow.

Hi, thanks for your help, it looks like updating the NIC drivers solved the
    problem.

Re: Ping Request Time Out sometimes

Weber, the problems seem to be solved, but again I have the same problem.

    Any additional suggestion.
