cna I remove these folders?

Hi,

We have a widows 2003 server in our network (member server), the C drive is
almost full can some one tell me if it is safe to remove these folders:

C:\windows\MEMORY.DMP
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles
C:\WINDOWS\ie7updates
C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$

Appreciate any help.

You can remove most or all of the backups of service pack files
(prefixed by $KBxxxxxx) provided they are at least 3 months old. This
is in case a service pack would need to be removed.

Yes to the .dmp file.
No to \SoftwareDistribution
No to ServicePackFiles
You can delete the $KB in \ie7updates if you like.

After this, be sure to go to Add/Remove programs and ensure show
updates is checked and purge out the deleted entried of KB and IE7
updates of you do delete them.

Sorry for jumping in, why not removing SoftwareDistribution? Did it very
often and have no problems, even with new updates.

Meinolf,

I haven't actually tried to remove anything from there as I didn't
know it was safe to do so.

Hello Thee,

Ok, you can do it without any interference. Just stop the Automatic update
service, even if you delete the complete folder, start automatic update service.
The basic Folder structure will be rebuilded and used again for the next
updates.

that stops the viewing/download/installation of updates.

Good to know. I've gone through 10-step registry hack method before
and it's not a picnic.
