    Windows 2003 DCOM Event

    Helo everybody

I have an error log under my system event, which pops up every time I
    restart the server.

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: DCOM
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 10010
    Date: 11.07.2005
    Time: 23:51:03 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer:
    Description:
The server {D61A27C6-8F53-11D0-BFA0-00A024151983} did not register with DCOM
    within the required timeout.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

As sugested by microsoft online help I shoud contect the vendor of the
aplications cosing this error. From the registry settings I can see that it's
    about this .dll file:
    "C:\WINNT\system32\ntmssvc.dll"

This error log started to pop up after I have upgradet the Win2k Advance
server to win 2003 ent SP1.

Any ideas on this whay I'm geting this error log.

Have you tried running 'regsvr32 ntmssvc.dll' from a command prompt to try to
    re-register the COM interface?
If that doesn't work, try removing and reinstalling NTBackup using Add/Remove
Programs - Windows Components, as this DLL appears to be related to backup.

I too am having the same/similar problem.

Only "after" I uninstalled the Computer Associates Brightstar Backup Program
and tried to use NTBackup. It would let me in once and no nothing (ntbackup
    that is).

NTbackup will just sit there on "looking for backup devices"

I'm getting the same error message

The server {D61A27C6-8F53-11D0-BFA0-00A024151983} did not register with DCOM
    within the required timeout.

I've tried renaming the files under

system32\NtmsData to .old and trying to fix the database but its still give
    me the error.

I have also tried uninstall the SCSI controller and Tape Drive, but still
    give me the error...

    any thoughts ?

    Re: Windows 2003 DCOM Event

    lushtanet,

    Lazyl,

I had several servers that were getting the DCOM did not register error. The
only reference to this error is for WindowsNT and has to do with a registry
edit. You can see this info at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q187146/. I
tried this on 2003 server and it does nothing.

Here is what I did. Take the entire server id including the {} and do a
search of the registry. This will tell you what program is causing the
problem. In my case it was mdm.exe (machine debug manager). Open Component
services and expand the tree to open DCOM Config. (Control
Panel/Administrative Tools/ Component Services or dcomcnfg on a DOS window)
    Check the properties of
whatever program you have found in the registry. On the identity tab check
    the
'launching user' apply and then check your event log.

    RE: Windows 2003 DCOM Event

    I found a solution in
"Windows Server 2003 Standard - DCOM Problems in General Discussion"
    where Wavellan proposed:
    -----------------
For those of you who are interested, I finally resolved this issue. It
apears as some MS patch changed the permissions on the following
    registry key:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID

In order to resolve the problem, the following permissions were added

Registry Key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID (and all child keys and values)

    Permissions Added:

    Authenticated users: Read access
    Network Service: full control
    --------------------
I recommend a full reading of the reffered article.
    Good luck.
