Print Drivers for x64 (Win2003 & Vista) on Win2003 x86 Print Server

What's the best way to install the x64 Print drivers on the x86 Print Server
so the x64 machines can just download the right driver when they connect to
the printer?

Thanks,
Scott<-

Hello,

You can follow these steps:
1. Logon to an x64 Server with an account which is an admin on the target
x86 Print Server
2. Connect to the print server using the UNC path \\PrintServer32bit
3. You will see the printers and faxes folder among others
4. Open the Printers and Faxes folder
5. Go to File--> server properties -> Drivers tab and do an Add driver
6. Additionally you can go to already existing printer properties and in
the sharing tab click on additional driver and install the x64 driver.

Hope this helps.

Re: Print Drivers for x64 (Win2003 & Vista) on Win2003 x86 Print Server

So I connect to the 32bit server, install all the Drivers that I think are
the right ones.
For Instance I have a HP Laserjet 5000 PCL x86 Driver for one of the
printer.
So I install from my Vista x64 machine a "HP Laserjet 5000 PCL 6" driver.

It takes it and is listed in the Installed Printer Drivers.

I try to connect to the shared printer and says I don't have a Driver and
asks if I want to search. Searching comes up with nothing.

I get properties of the printer, click sharing Tab, hit the Additional
Drivers button, The x64 is not check, and the installed status is 'no' If I
click Install it wants a Disk.

Looks like the Driver name needs to match Exactly. I guess I need to
install the same driver name for both x86 and x64 even though they are the
same, just different versions?

Re: Print Drivers for x64 (Win2003 & Vista) on Win2003 x86 Print Server

Hello,

Thank you for the update!

That is truth. x86 and x64 is the different, even if the name is similar.
The X86 client just use the driver for x86 version, don't use the driver
for x64.

If you have any concerns, feel free to post back.

Thanks & Regards,
