Logical Disk Management gives 'Unspecified Error' on server

Ok this is bizarre, we took out a CD rom on our server to put in a DVD rom,
that bombed (another story) so we put the CD rom back in and rebooted.

We have one internal hard drive and 2 SAN disk drives associated with the
server.

Our driver letters are C, D, E. The cd-rom is Z drive

On the reboot the SAN disks went to E,F

We went to Disk Management in Computer Management and when we clicked-on the
activity we received in the bottom 'Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager
service' a pop-up of 'Unspecified Error' occurred.

Our Logical Disk Management Service is Local Account without Interact with
Desktop checked. It is manual and started.

We were able to recover the server by going to the Domain controller and
pulling up computer management for the server there, which we were able to
see the server's drives and remap accordingly.

We still cannot via the GUI or cmd able to go to Disk Management.

We receive no errors in the Event viewer and the service is started after
stop and start.

We are thinking it is something within the snap-in itself and wondering if
it can be corrected (such as regedit key or such)

Thanks

Dave,

Ok your answer led me to the lightbulb...on checking the service
dependencies I see that Plub and Play and RPC Remote Procedure Call is
started by grayed out. I cannot stop or restart these two services. I think
this is the culprit and can go from here...thanks
