hi, i keep receiving this error for my servers .. any idea?

For the error code that you are getting you have to check your scheduling. You probably have two applications trying to access VSS at the same time. Remember, VSS is dumb and can only process one request at a time. If issue still persist check the server is updated with hotfix in Add\Remove Programs if not then install the following patches:
a. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959476
b. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959962 (required only on hyper-v)
c. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959978

thank you, but when i try to download those patch , the product shows " Vista " only ? mine are server 2008 64bit enterprise.

Based on the research, the error message may be related to the Backup application that is running on the problematic server.

Would you please check if Windows Server Backup feature is being used to take backup on the box? Or do you use any third party software application to make backup on the problematic server?

The VSS event ID 12289 may occurs if the third party backup application is used. If possible, we would like suggest that you use Windows Server Backup which is a built-in feature on Windows Server 2008 to take backups.

unfortunately, we use hp data protector. we are not allowed to use windows backup and that service has been disabled, but i keep receiving this error
