ISA Server 2006 VPN 721 Remote computer did not respond

    Hi there,

I am having some trouble with a PPTP VPN service set up in ISA Server 2006 EE.
Directly from the external interface of the ISA the client can connect, but from the Internet they cannot, and they see a 721 error (remote computer did not respond) after the user enters credentials and the verifying username and password dialog box shows up, In logging, in ISA Server Management, there are PPTP protocols being logged, the trend being: 0x0_Error_success, 0x0_Error_Success and then 0x80074e24 FWX_E_Connection_Killed, 0x80074e24 FWX_E_Connection_Killed.

Can anyone help me? I am assured the external firewall allows protocols 1723 PPTP, HTTP, HTTPS at least.

Whatever is between the internet and the external interface of the ISA
    server is causing this issue.

Check your network cabling and confirm with the people who maintain
your firewall that they have the correct IP for your ISA server, that
the ports you mentioned are indeed open and that NAT has been
    configured correctly.

You can check this by telnetting from an external source which doesn't
block TCP Port 1723 to the external address the firewall chaps give
    you.

Hi, thank you very much for your reply.

I understand that the port TCP 1723 should be open for PPTP communication, but should IP port 47 be open for GRE also?

Remember that ISA Server monitoring is showing traffic with the protocol PPTP with the client IP of my external client, so presumably the external firewall is allowing PPTP traffic.

Telnetting on port 1723 from outside to the external interface of the firewall results in a blank screen. From the DMZ to the external interface of the ISA, from where it is working, also results in a black screen, so I´d suggest the port 1723 isn´t the problem.
