Slipstreamed Server 2003 SP1 install fails looking for AMDIDE.SYS

Hello all,

I slipstreamed sp1 into my volume license server 2003 std CD and
attempted a clean install on two new Dell Poweredge 750's. I've tried
installing with and without using the Dell utility CD and either way
get this error at the beginning of setup, a few seconds after seeing
"Press F6 to load an additional SCSI or RAID driver"...

The file amdide.sys could not be found
Press any key to continue

....at which point setup fails and exits.

This file, amdide.sys is new to sp1 and does not exist on my original
CD. I extracted the file from the service pack and expanded it reveal
the version information:

File Version: 5.2.3790.1830
Description: AMD IDE Driver
Copyright: Copyright (C) AMD 2003

The Dell utility CD actually pre-copies all the basic setup files to a
temp folder on the C drive and since I chose FAT32 I was able to
reboot on a DOS floppy disk and look for the file. It is there in
compressed format as amdide.sy_. Just for grins I copied the
uncompressed file - amdide.sys into the folder and rebooted but it
didn't help.

It isn't my CD, it loads fine on another Dell workstation I use as a
test server. It's something to do with this model of server and the
new AMD ide driver. Can anyone assist?

Hello
Look at the txtsetup.sif file.
That is the file that is pointing to the amdide.sys at that stage of setup.
What is on that line of txtsetup.sif that references that file.
Are you booting from CD/
When you use the Dell CD, what temp folder is it creating?
Thanks,

We have same problem on a Poweredge 800 using the Dell utility CD.

We gave up and used the non-slipstreamed disk and then applied SP1.

Re: Slipstreamed Server 2003 SP1 install fails looking for AMDIDE.SYS

Hello all,

I have the same problem as you. My Hardware is a PowerEdge 1750. I've
successfully installed a Virtual Server Session with the same CD. Does
anyone talked with Dell or Microsoft about that Issue? What could we else
test?

Greeetings

Re: Slipstreamed Server 2003 SP1 install fails looking for AMDIDE.SYS

Hello all,

after further tests I've able to install with a slipstreamed CD. I've
extracted and copied the AMDIDE.SYS to the "*.bt~" folder on the boot disk.
Before I installed the system with the same CD but without the DELL CD. This
worked as well.

I found this thread while running into the same problem trying to do an install on a DELL PowerEdge 1850 server. I was able to resolve the error by going into the BIOS and changing the setting under CPU details from Enabled to Disabled on Sequential Memory Access. Make that one change and a slipstream SP1 clean install works just fine. I happened to have the OS CD in the drive when I rebooted and just went ahead and did the install from there. I suspect the same results would apply if I were to have gone back to the DELL Utility/Setup disk.
