    TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service fails

Every time I try to start the "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service it fails with
an "error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. I have gone
to Device Manger and looked at all of the hiden devices and it shows two
things first NetBios over Tcpip has a red X on it and second the SYMTDI has a
caution error on it. It shows that the device is disabled with a code of 22
in the properties however I can't restart it. It says the service cannot be
started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices
associated with it. I have also look at teh registry settings and they are
correct according to Microsoft KB article.

I am at a loss what to look at this point and how to fix it. Does anyone
    have any suggestions.

Did you select the radio button for 'Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP' in the
advanced setting for the connection? Also make sure that any dependant
    services are started.

SYMTDI is a symantec product. If it was removed or isn't working this could
    also be a problem.

Re: TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service fails

Yes the radio button is selected. For some information that I first left of
the problem is that the customer I am setting this server up for has
requested the following services to be disabled:

    Application Layer Gateway
    Application Management
    Computer Browser
    DHCP Client
    Distributed Link Tracking Client
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Error Reporting Services
    File Replication
    Help and Support
    Logical Disk Manager
    NTLM Security Support Provider
    Performance Logs and Alerts
    Portable Media Serial Number
    Print Server
    Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
    Remote Registry
    Removable Storage
    Shell Hardware Detection
    Smart Card
    Special Administrator console
    Task Scheduler
    Uninterruptible Power Supply
    Windows Audio
    Windows Installer
    Windows Management Instrumentation
    WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto Discovery

NOw even though I turn these service back on and reboot my TCP/IP NetBios
Helper Services fails. Can I uninstall the NetBios over TCPIP in the device
manager and then reinstall it? If so, where do/how re-install it from?

Have you fixed the SYMTDI problem? If the service is dependant on this then
you'll need to uninstall it or fix it.

No, as I am still researching how to fix that problem. Just uninstalling and
reinstalling of the product doesn't fix that problem.

Good news I did fix the TCP/IP NetBios problem. I disabled the NetBios over
Tcpip in device manager and then reenabled it and rebooted and the service
came back up and is working now.
    Good to hear it's sorted.
