| Shadow Copy event IDs 7035 & 7036 and can't delete schedule
We have a server where we had disabled shadow copies before disabling the schedules. Now every few hours I get event IDs 7035 and 7036: "The Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service entered the stopped state." and "The Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service entered the running state." Is there a way to stop these events? We've already tried deleting the shadow copy schedules, but it doesn't work -- they appear to be deleted but when you go back into the shadow copy interface they come back. |

The service should be set to manual and these events are informing you that the schedule is being adhered to. This is a system service that other components such as NTBackup rely on so simply disabling it (even though recommended on some websites) is not a good idea. If you really want to disable VSS completly you could use the SCW (Security Configuration Wizard) shipped with Windows 2003, if that is the OS you are using, to disable service. This way you will have some confidence that this will not affect any other components running on your system. Thanks for the help, that answers one question. But why can't I get rid of the shadow copy schedules that are there? I'm afraid that I don' t know why they can not be deleted, I suspect that as the default for the VSS service is two daily schedules that after the service restarts and finds no schedules that the default are automatically recreated.
