    MRxSmb Event 8003

    Hi,

Since about 3 days ago, our windows 2003 file server started showing error
message about MRxSmb Event ID 8003:

The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
xxxx-mdb that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on
    transport NetBT_Tcpip_{555F8BB4-C14B-4786-.
The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp

Our domain's structure is: xxxx-mdb (also 2003 server) is the domain
controller and global catalog, this file server is just a member server of
the domain. Why does it show this error message when xxxx-mdb announces
that it is the master browser? It seems that the master browser should be
the domain controller, not the file server.

    Any idea?

    Thanks for any help!

    Event ID 8003
    Description
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer
<Windows NT client> that believes that it is the master browser for the
domain on transport <NetBT>. The master browser is stopping or an election
    is being forced.

    Cause:
The message usually means that some machine can't see the master browser, so
it tries to force an election. If it is not a client problem, it gets
harder. Is the DC multihomed? This is a known browser problem.

Event ID 8003, 8009 and 8019 Appear If Subnet Mask Incorrect

Thanks for the information. It seems that my case is harder. The domain
controller is not mutihome. The file server and the dc are in the same
subnet, using 255.255.255.0. The dc event viewer does not see any error
message about "master browser announcement" from the file server or other
client systems. Only the file server shows "master browser announcement"
from the dc. Maybe the dc is not always available? maybe....
