Event ID 11166 - Server can't register host (A) record

I'm having an issue with a W2K3 SP1 member server that serves as a file
server. I am receiving this error in the system event log. When the server
is restarted, this error is listed in the log. Every time that I issue the
ipconfig /registerdns command (as the entry tells me to do), I get the same
message. I can access the server fine, I can access the DFS shares fine, and
I see records in DNS for this server. The server has a static IP address. I
have checked the TCP/IP client settings and they look fine (they match all
the other servers). Am I overlooking something? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks!

Have you confirmed that in it's IP properties, DNS settings that it is ONLY
pointing to the internal DNS that is hosting your AD zone (which is allowing
updates)?

Also, are any services disabled, such as the DNS Client service? That is a
required service which is responsible for registration and resolution,
static IP or not, despite its name.

Did you try deleting the offending A record then do the ipconfig
/registerdns?
