    Windows Server 2003 R2 - DFS errors 6012, 1202 ?

I am trialing Windows server R2 on a file server. I want to test the "branch
    server" DFS file replication feature.

After installing R2 and the DFS component I get the following in the
    application event log :

    DFSR 6012

The DFS Replication service detected an incompatible Active Directory schema
version while trying to read configuration objects from server mydc. The
service disconnected from this server and will try again in the next polling
    cycle.

    Additional Information:
    Expected Version: 31
    Incompatible Server Version: 30
    Domain Controller: mydc

    And then Event 1202 :

The DFS Replication service failed to contact domain controller to access
configuration information. Replication is stopped. The service will try again
during the next configuration polling cycle, which will occur in 60 minutes.
This event can be caused by TCP/IP connectivity, firewall, Active Directory,
    or DNS issues.

Now the DC in question IS running Windows 2003 SP1 and I have no wish to run
    R2 on these DC's

Surely I do not have to update my DC's to test this feature of R2??

DFS-R can be used on 2 R2 servers.

Is the R2 server configured as a member server of a SP1 DC?

Also, the DC's schema must be updated. It doesn't necessary needs to be a R2
machine. You can find the updated schema to be updated for
    WIn2000/Win2003/Win2003 SP1 or R2 machine, from Disk 2. :)

Yes the server is a member of a domain controlled by only win2k3 DCs with SP1

Can you point (urls) to any reference in the documentation on schema updates
necessary or other dependencies that the R2 components may have ..

    thanks

    Hi,

Please read the setup file from the R2 CD regarding the schema update of SP1
    machine.
