| ntbackup / wsus? sql? / Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy / Event Source: VSS / Event ID: 6013
I have added WSUS which I believe comes with a version of SQL. Recently scheduled NTbackup jobs are failing with this in the backup log: Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:80042319 and this in the application log: Event Type: Error Event Source: VSS Event Category: None Event ID: 6013 Date: 02/11/2005 Time: 00:54:42 User: N/A Computer: CHERRY Description: Sqllib error: OLEDB Error encountered calling ICommandText::Execute. hr = 0x80040e14. SQLSTATE: 42000, Native Error: 3013 Error state: 1, Severity: 16 Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server Error message: BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. Any ideas? regards Roga |

I tried to re-register the following binaries: net stop vss regsvr32 ole32.dll regsvr32 vss_ps.dll Vssvc /Register regsvr32 /i swprv.dll Regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll regsvr32 es.dll regsvr32 stdprov.dll regsvr32 vssui.dll regsvr32 msxml.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll regsvr32 msxml4.dll But it didn't work. I also tried to apply the KB833167 hotfix from microsoft but it said that this hotfix is not nessecary for my machine (windows 2003 server x64 SP1) I'm really stuck on this problem. Anybody an idee? |

| Volume Shadow Copy Service
Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is running in the Services MMC. Mine was some how set to manual, therefore it was not currently running. I changed it to automatic and started it. Then the backup ran just fine. Thanks J |
