Event ID 17055 source MSSQLSERVER category 2 type Error

This error appears in the Event Viewer during a Veritas backup of a
standalone W2k Advanced Server. The description is: 17207: udopen: Operating
system error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified.) during the
    creation/opening of physical device C:\Program Files\Dell\OpenManage\IT
    Assistant\database\ITAssist.mdf.
The software shown in the path was removed from the server months ago using
the Add/Remove function from the control panel. I can't find any reference
to the path in the registry. The directory referenced is no longer available.
What file would have this information embedded in it so I can get rid of it?
It is not Veritas - I have removed and reinstalled it several times. I can
find this path and error shown in the MSSQL logfiles. Any assistance would
    be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Hoss

    From here:

    http://eventid.net/display.asp?event...Server&phase=1

"18204: [...] Operating system error = 3(The system cannot find the path
specified.) - This event is generated when there is an attempt to backup an
    MS
SQL database to a backup device that is corrupted or has not been
    initialized"

There's also quite a bit more information there if you're interested.

Re: Event ID 17055 source MSSQLSERVER category 2 type Error

I realize that the path and file cannot be found, but there must be a file
that is being run that references that path and that file should be modified.
It is not in Veritas. Since I can find the identical message in the the
    C:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Log\errorlog - is there a .dll or
..inf file or something that has a reference to that path in it? How would I
find it? We do a full backup daily. The backup completes successfully. We
don't get any error messages from the Backup software. These errors that
show up in the Event Viewer show the user as <domain name>\user name -
and that user name is only used for the backup run.
Thanks for the introduction to EventID.Net, a very interesting site. Hoss

I don't have a direct answer for you but I did come across this when I was
    first looking for your answer:

    http://forums.veritas.com/discussion...sageID=4397574

I'd give the links in there a look-see and maybe it's something as simple as
    a service not starting?

RE: Event ID 17055 source MSSQLSERVER category 2 type Error

    Under /Program Files/ms sql server/ I have directories - MSSQL and
MSSQL$BKUPEXEC - they both have LOG directories and similar files:
errorlog, and errorlog1, 2, 3 etc. In addition the MSSQL$BKUPEXEC directory
has files called SQLAGENT1, 2, 3 etc. The ERRORLOG files under
MSSQL$BKUPEXEC do not have the (Operating system error 3) message - just the
MSSQL files have the 'open failed: cannot find the path specified' messages
that show up in the Event Viewer with Event ID: 17055. I probably wouldn't
be paying attention to this but it seems that whatever is happening to update
the MSSQL logs might be conflicting with the updating of the MSSQL$BKUPEXEC
logs since they both occur within a fraction of a second. Can you or anyone
tell me where the procedure to start up the missing database is stored so
that it can be removed? Thanks.
