I need dumpcfg.exe

Hi all,

I have had a major failure over the weekend and as a result I need to change
back the drive signature on my disk. I have trawled through almost the whole
of the internet trying to find the utility Dumpcfg.exe which apparently is
part of the Windows 2000 Resource Kit, but with no joy.

I have a Windows 2003 cluster that lost it's disk enclosure and of course
re-wrote the disk signature when so the Cluster service would not start. I
overcame this with the /FixQuorum in the service which enabled me to get the
service started and then assign a new disk resource which then enabled me to
change all my groups to use when starting but I now have the old disk still
in the cluster administrator and I don't know how to get rid of it becuase
when I try to delete the disk it tells me I can't because it is a core
device? So if I change the disk signature back to the orginal and then move
all my groups back and delete the newly added disk this should resolve me
problem?

Any help and indeed a copy of Dumpcfg.exe would be gratefully recieved.

Jimmy.

Re: I need dumpcfg.exe

You don't need dumpcfg. Look for the clusterrecovery tool. It will do it all
and it graphical and freely available in the Windows Server 2003 Resource
kit. It works on 2000 & 2003.

Cheers,

Rod

Re: I need dumpcfg.exe

Hi Rodney,

I did try to use the RK but it refused to complete the "Replace a physical
disk resource" task. Shall I explain what I did and see if you can help me.

I recreated the array, booted into windows and re-created the disks and gave
them the same drive letters. I then used Veritas 10 to restore both the
quorum and the data disk (because I thought that the niffity option to
restore the quorum would work). I then found the 2003 RK and followed the
advise in the help menu and got the node to start the service and tried the
"Replace a physical disk resource" and got no joy. So I created a new disk
resource and moved my groups over to use this new resource and brought my
servers etc on line. I now have the old disk resource still in the cluster
management, should I now change the properties to use this disk resource? If
so will it change any of the data stored on the quorum or is this safe? My
second node will not come on line and gives the below error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ClusSvc
Event Category: Node Mgr
Event ID: 1070
Date: 15/08/2005
Time: 15:49:19
User: N/A
Computer: TFSVR01
Description:
The node failed to begin the process of joining the server cluster. The
error code was 5036.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Your advise would be gratefully recieved.

Regards,

Jimmy.

Re: I need dumpcfg.exe

You can move a working quorum to a new disk at anytime. Use the Cluster
Administrator to do it, right-click on the cluster name, properties, Quroum
tab. This will safely move your quorum to whatever disk you choose.

Joining the second node - it could be this -

Or this - http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;258469

Cheers,

Rod
