Unable to detect tape drive or tape media.

I am using a Dell Poweredge SC420 with Small Business Server 2003. The tape backup unit is a Travan TR-40. I have searched everywhere for a fix for this problem. The backup server has worked fine for years, now all of a sudden when I put a tape in, it is automatically ejected. I have tried, hotfixes, cleaned the machine, tried 2 different new tapes, but when I put the tape in it whirls for 30 seconds and ejects it.
Here is what the backup log says:

    0/2010 4:09PM

Re: Unable to detect tape drive or tape media.

You should try to power off and on the server and disconnect and reconnect cable from the tape drive and then power on it again. Other than this you can check for new tape device drivers as of Dell? Otherwise, by some possibility did you try to install latest tape device drivers through WU/MU? So try this out and check if it resolves the problem for you. Good Luck!!!
