I have a win2k3 server that is running Key Management Service for Windows Server 2003.
It is showing Name: Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, W7R2-Kms3 edition
Description: Windows(TM) Server 2003 KMS, VOLUME_KMS_R2_B channel.
This is being used to activate the licenses on our 2008 R2 Servers.
I need to remove the service from the Win2k3 server and run it from one of our 2008 R2 Servers, because the Win2k3 server is going bye bye.
I have found numerous articles on how to set this up on server 2008 r2, but I am not finding anything that makes sense as far as removing KMS from the Win2k3 server.
One post I found said to just remove the program via the add remove programs function. When I started this route I got a message with a list of programs running on the server and that they may not function properly after removing the KMS program. Eventually this machine is going away, but I still need everything else to function for a while longer.
Any help, ideas, or experiences with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
