Thread: Unable to create a user profile on terminal server upon login.

Unable to create a user profile on terminal server upon login.

We have PDC (#1) and two (#2 and #3) terminal servers.

One user had her account deleted and recreated. She was usually logging into the terminal server #3. Now of course because her acc. was recreated she is able to log in fine in #2 terminal server but gets errors on #3.

Basically, upon logging into #3 she gets a temporary Roaming profile that resides in C:\Documents and Settings\TEMP instead of <user name> folder. When she logs off, that TEMP folder disappears along with her temporary roaming profile from the list of profiles.

In the list of profiles all options are dimmed and you can't do much.

Question: How can I fix it and remove her old SID from that server to let her log in and create a "normal" profile?

    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Alex

You need to use the GPMC to manage policies,

    roaming profile won't delete
I'm having a problem with a network logon searching for a roaming profile
even though the roaming profile path has been deleted from the user's
    properties on the server.

Problem began when my PDC hard drive crashed and I wound up having to
reformat and rebuilt a new PDC server from scratch, though the roaming
profiles were stored on another drive that was not lost.

However, in the new AD, I did not recreate the roaming profile path, but
when the user logs on to the network, he's told his roaming profile cannot be
    fround.

I went into the work station and checked the USER and deleted the RP path,
but the problem persists. It also happens when I try to log on as that user
from any other computer in the network.

So how can I get rid of this "ghost" of a roaming profile?

Created new server with same domain name and password.

    Kearney,
That won't work. Objects in AD are identified by a unique ID, so the ID will
be different even with the same name. What you need to do now is to transfer
the user data over to the new accounts.
    Anthony,

    How?
How? One solution that seems to be working in part is to log on to the server
from a workstation that the user has never before used and then copying into
that local profile the contents of his old local profile folder, but I'm
still getting some wierd results. Programs that won't run or that won't allow
you to open files by double-clicking, but will from with the application
(i.e., Word & Excel) but still won't let you open them by double-clicking
after you resave to the desktop and close the application.

You can recover the data easily enough. Use NTBackup to copy the profile
somewhere (so as to keep the original intact). Then take ownership and copy
out the documents, favorites, desktop, application data etc that you want.
Getting the settings is more difficult as some of these were stored in the
user's registry or encrypted. Have a look at this:

Thanks. I think that does it. Now, if I may ask one more dumb question...When
I open the GPO on the server, the module for folder redirect is missing. can
you point me to a MS article on how to get it back? I tried searching but
    couldn't locate one. Thanks.

From my experience in XP AD domain, you can access through the properties of the workstation to a Remote tab, and then on to the definition of a group of users who can access the computer. It is stated that the accounts local administrators can immediately access the machine by TSE, and we are invited to add other accounts. I remember trying to add a domain administrator account, but it was not enough.
