DHCP register DNS record

Hello all

My DNS and DHCP servers are located on the same servers, and these servers
are also domain controllers. All DNS zones are integrated and are set to
secure dynamic updates. When a xp or vista client gets an ip address from
dhcp, and the A record for the client gets registered in DNS, when the
client disconnects from the network at this point does the DHCP server
delete the A record out of DNS, or does the A record remain in DNS until
scaveging has been run againts the DNS zone?

When i look at DHCP properties for the scope i see an option for "Delete ptr
and A records when the lease is delted" As i understand this when the client
loses its dhcp assigned ip address, DHCP at this time will delete the record
out of DNS

Thansk for any clarification

The record will remain until it's either reached it's scavenging timestamp,
or the client is provided a new lease, which will update it, and only will
update it if DHCP has been configured with credentials to do so, otherwise
additional records will be created for the one client.

Read the following for more information. I hope it helps.
