| Error Upgrading Windows 2003 Schema to Windows 2008 Schema
We using the command 'adprep /forestprep' to update our WIndows 2003 R2 (Rev 31) schema to WIndows 2008 (rev. 44), we are getting the following error: ERROR: Waiting for ldifde to complete failed: 6 However, the result of the command stated the forestprep was successful. We went ahead and attempted to perform a domain prep but were unsuccessful. When we investigated closer, we found the forestprep was failing when attempting to import sch32.ldf. When we performed the import of that file manually we received the following error: Entry DN: CN=Top,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=dev,DC=corp,DC=dom Add error on line 217: Unwilling To Perform The server side error is "An attempt is made to modify the base schema." An error has occurred in the program |

You run the adprep command from the 2008 installation disk directly or did you copy the adprep folder to harddisk before? I assume you use an account that is member of the schema admins and run it on the schema master? |

We copied sources\adprep directory locally. We have also confirmed we are in the correct groups, Enterprise and Schema Admins and we were on the Schema Master. Do you have thoughts as to why this failed? Run the command from the installation disk, not form the copied folder on the disk. |

We just tried it directly from the CD and received the following output. D:\sources\adprep>adprep /forestprep ADPREP WARNING: Before running adprep, all Windows 2000 Active Directory Domain Controllers in t he forest should be upgraded to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later. [User Action] If ALL your existing Windows 2000 Active Directory Domain Controllers meet this requirement, type C and then press ENTER to continue. Otherwise, type any other key and press ENTER to quit. C Opened Connection to DC SSPI Bind succeeded Current Schema Version is 31 Upgrading schema to version 44 ERROR: Waiting for ldifde to complete failed: 6 Adprep successfully updated the forest-wide information. |

Assuming that you run an AntiVirus program on it, at least stop all services belonging to it and try again. Same error. Do you know what the error code '6' means? Any ideas where we might find this information? |

Please check if all 5 FSMO roles are exsiting, run "netdom query fsmo" and check that they are lsited on existing DC's. Additional run dcdiag /v on the 2003 DC's and post theb output if errors exist. |

All 5 roles are hosted by the same DC. I also ran dcdiag /v and no errors were posted. Have a look on this one about Exchange and Unix: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc783495.aspx |

Hi, could you solve the problem? We have nearly the same issue here, but trying to do a schema upgrade from Server 2003 (Rev 30) to Server 2008 R2 (Rev 47). It seems to hang at sch31.ldf. |

Please creaet your own posting including error messages and the adprep logfile. Just jumping in with not exact the same problem is not the best option to start. |
