Please describe the roles your server has. Also it is not a good idea to
multihome a server with different ip addresses. Please post an unedited ipconfig
    /all from it.

Doh, to have 2 network cards in the *same* subnet, that would be a problem.
They must be in different subnets.

Sounds for me more a clustering problem, i will corsppost this to:
    microsoft.public.windows.server.clustering

The server is a domain member and have Hyper-V roles . Why is not good idea
have different ip addresses , the iscsi storage is connected to a physical
    separate lan .
This is the output of ipconfig is :

    Hello Reggiani,

See here about server roles and multihoming:

    1. Domain Controllers should not be multi-homed
    2. Being a VPN Server and even simply running RRAS makes it multi-homed.
    3. DNS,..even just all by itself, is better on a single homed machine.
    4. Domain Controllers with the PDF Role are automatically Domain Master
Browser. Master Browsers should not be multi-homed

Re: Windows Server 2008 Ent 64Bit , remote desktop problem

    Hi guys,

    I have the same problem.
When I activate an additional NIC under Windows RDP is disconnectig my session and doesn't accept any further connections. No error message is displayed and i can't find anything at the eventlog.

ICMP, network shareing and even rpc is working fine.
When I deactivate the NIC, RDP ist also working well immediatelly.

    Here's the story :

I want to upgrade a 2 node cluster (HP DL580 G4) from Windows Server 2003 R2 Ent. x64 to Windows Server 2008 x64. So i've performed a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 on my existing hardware.

Every node in the cluster has 3 NICs. Two of them are teamed (Fault tolerant) and connected to the corporate network 10.1.x.x/16 The third NIC is used for heartbeat between nodes and is configured in a seperate subnet 192.168.137.x/24 (connected via crosslink) - See attachment for ipconfig /all

The same Hardware and NIC configuration - and when I write "same" then I mean "same" - has worked perfectly under windows server 2003 r2. The hardware and network connections weren't touched during the update procedure.

This configuration is a must if you wan't to run an enterprise class server cluster. So it is no option to run the cluster heartbeat over the public LAN connection.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions are highly apperciated.

Re: Windows Server 2008 Ent 64Bit , remote desktop problem

I#ve just opened a Microsoft Premier Support case on this.
The support Engineer gave it a first shot and referred to KB960742 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960742).

I've installed the mentioned hotfix. AND ...
    ... it still doesn't work ...

*FIXED* Windows Server 2008 Ent 64Bit , remote desktop problem

    I think i got it !
    It's no bug. It's a feature !

Assume that you have 2 NICs in a server. Windows 2008 is trying to identify the connected networks.

Let's further assume that one NIC is connected to your "domain network" and the other one to an "unidentified network". The network attached at your NIC which claims to be an "unidentified network" is set to "Public" mode.

In this mode RDP Connections are forbidden. You need to change this NIC to "Private" mode.

See my screenshots for your reference. This configuration works.
