| 2003 member server cannot contact active directory - cannot authorize DHCP
I have a windows 2003 member server on a separate subnet and site from our 2003 domain controller. last week I demoted a windows 2000 server that had issues with active directory. the member server at the other site was working fine. now my 2003 member server at the other site will not hand out dhcp addresses, says it is not authorized. when I access DHCP on this server from the domain controller at the first site, it shows red as unauthorized, but when I try to go to authorize it, it only allows me the option to UNauthorize it, and will not let me do even that. in Event Viewer on the member server I get an Userenv error, event 1053: Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). Group Policy processing aborted. and also getting warning on SRMSVC event id 12317 : Error: (0x8007054b) The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. I tried using the NETSH command to authorize the member server, ran it from the domain controller and it said succesfull, but it didnt change anything. if I try NETSH on the member server it tells me that DHCP server was unable to contact active directory. what else should I look at? |

What is the IP address of the server it is pointed to for DNS? Is that server up? Can you ping it? >(The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ). >Group Policy processing aborted. Most of the time this error indicates a DNS problem. hth DDS "Gary" <garym_dontspame@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:O0JUXQk9IHA.1192@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >I have a windows 2003 member server on a separate subnet and site from our >2003 domain controller. > > last week I demoted a windows 2000 server that had issues with active > directory. > the member server at the other site was working fine. > > now my 2003 member server at the other site will not hand out dhcp > addresses, says it is not authorized. > > when I access DHCP on this server from the domain controller at the first > site, it shows red as unauthorized, but when I try to go to authorize it, > it only allows me the option to UNauthorize it, and will not let me do > even that. > > in Event Viewer on the member server I get an Userenv error, event 1053: > Windows cannot determine the user or computer name.
