| System Volume Information
On a Windows 2003 Server, there are 45 GB of files in the System Volume Information folder. The volume shadow copy service is disabled. How are these files being generated and how can I safely delete them? |

Hard to tell - I would start by looking at what files/folders consume this large amount of disk space. |

An example of one of the file names is as follows: {0f314af8-4efe-11dd-87ff-0013210d9c87}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752} They all have this format and are listed as system files with the attributes HSA Can the files be safely deleted to recover the disk space? I don't know what they are and where they come from. If this was my machine then I would move them to another disk and wait a month before deleting them permanently. It might also be a good idea to check the three date stamps: a) When they were created b) When they were last accessed c) When they were last modified "Brian" <Brian@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5E130625-88F3-4E7A-865F-3F60094FB660@microsoft.com... > An example of one of the file names is as follows: > {0f314af8-4efe-11dd-87ff-0013210d9c87}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752} > They all have this format and are listed as system files with the > attributes > HSA > > Can the files be safely deleted to recover the disk space? > > Thanks, > Brian > > "Pegasus (MVP)" wrote: > >> >> "Brian" <Brian@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:E5DEB4AB-86D8-4003-8823-6B8BCD79AC41@microsoft.com... >> > On a Windows 2003 Server, there are 45 GB of files in the System Volume >> > Information folder.
