can't restart remote server 2003 with shutdown -i?

Hi All: I have 2003 domain with a number of member servers. One of the
servers is unresponsive...I can ping it from other computers on the subnet,
but can't access it with remote desktop.

I tried to restart it using the interactive shutdown dialog...when I
"browsed" for computers it came up in AD (although I realize that may not
mean anything). However, the "remote shutdown dialog" just hang's when I
select "restart", no matter what computer I try from, including the PDC when
I'm logged in as the domain admin.

Is it not possible to restart the server this way? Or is there anything else
    I can try?

I have been in similar predicaments. The only solution I found was to
get someone to look at the console and perhaps force a dirty reboot.

Thanks for the sympathy! Fortunately I had a pair of remote hands to
    initiate a reboot.
