    Time Restrictions

I don’t know whether it is possible or not but I want to do this anyhow. I have laptop running with Windows Xp and it remains at my home only. I have few kids who use this laptop as well.

Now what I want to do is put some restrictions on the laptop like kids can use it for the specific time only and not after that. It should be such as evening 5 to 8 PM.

Is it possible? Can do this with any built-in features of Windows XP or by using any third party software? Please let me know soon.

As far as I know there is a built-in option in Windows Vista for doing the same but I don’t think there is any such in Windows XP. You need to find out any third party software for the same.

Thanks a lot for the reply Hockson. So is there any third party tool you know which can do this job? Also let me tell you that this laptop is connected with LinkSys router. If there is any way we can do the job using router, please let me know.

    Re: Time Restrictions

It is also possible in Windows XP but you must be having XP Pro for the same. If you have the same, launch Group Policy Editor by typing GPEDIT.MSC in Start > RUN, press Enter. Go to Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options. In the right pane, locate the entry for Network Security: Force logoff when logon hours expire.

Here are the examples of setting the time from Command Prompt:
    net user kelly /time:M-F,08:00-17:00
    net user kelly /time:M-F,8am-5pm
    net user kelly /time:M,4am-5pm;T,1pm-3pm;W-F,8:00-17:00
