Cannot Install .Net Framework 3.0 with Win XP SP2

Hi,

I'm trying to install the .Net Framework 3.0 on my Windows XP SP2
workstation but it won't install. I have .Net 1.1 and 2.0 already installed.

Error message displayed is very non-descript.- it basically says that the
install failed.

Turn off your anti-virus program before attempting to install. You may have
to uninstall all .net framework versions and reinstall from scratch. Go to
MS update to download manually and reinstall.

The Windows Update page seems to want to install updates and security
patches to prior versions while also concurrently trying install later
versions, so the WU site might not be where you want to do the
"updates". Also, too often you get hung up with the WU download not
working and you're stuck in a loop trying to install that same
download proferred by WU.

Uninstall all instances of Net Framework shown in the Add/Remove
Programs applet and then follow the instructions and links at
Microsoft's KB article 923100 to install then in order and one at a
time. Then afterward use the WU site to ensure you have the latest
security updates for each version.
