Right-click on the file giving you this warning, and choose Properties. On the General tab of Properties, click on Unblock (Apply, OK). Hi, That is Fine but the thing is the .chm file and and .exe which are not directly launched and these are called by some other application. since user copies .chm and and.exe files to desired location and tries to launch the application through main application the .chm viewer fails to load the content. and in case of .exe it shows open security warning. any solution............? if programatically good.. Are the files ones downloaded from the internet? Were they in a compressed package, such as a .zip file? Before extracting the files, right-click on the .zip file, for example, and choose Properties. Then on the General tab of Properties, click on Unblock (Apply, OK). Then Extract the files, and place them where you want them. Otherwise, unless the .zip is unblocked, each and every file that is extracted will be marked as "Blocked", and give you that warning when one of the extracted files is opened. You can individually Unblock each file (.chm, .exe, etc.), if that is the case, but it's easier just to Unblock the .zip container initially. If using Internet Explorer to download the file, the Open File Security Warning is applied to the downloaded file automatically, and the warning will persist until the file is unblocked. The user has to Unblock the file as I indicated, as there is no way to do this automatically. And yes, unless this is done, an .exe. will give the warning, and a .chm file will fail to load its content... |

Dean-dean, I downloaded a .zip file, right-clicked on the file, went to properties, but there is no Unblock option ANYWHERE. Any direction would be great. -P "dean-dean" wrote: > Right-click on the file giving you this warning, and choose Properties. | Open File - Security Warning
I get this annoying warning when I open and .exe file. The warning gives me the option to deselect the 'always ask when opeing this file', but it reappears the next time I open the file and the warning is reselected even though I already deselected it. The warning has a help link on the bottom ' how can I decide what software to run' and all the help links talk about is downloading which has nothing to do with this warning dialog box. How do I get rid of this annoying security warning on this file. If I go to properties for the file, there is an unblock option which I select and apply, but it too reappears the next time I open the file properties. |

Disable the prompt. Are you saying you made the changes to your registry and you're sill getting the UAC prompts? If you have, restart your PC and see if that disables the prompts? I don't get no security warnings - what am I missing out on please? |

I disabled the prompt as shown, but it still shows up. I uncheck the always ask box in the warning dialogue box, but it still shows up and with the always ask checked. Not sure what else to say, these functions do not seem to be working properly to me, but then that can probably be said about the whole operating system. |

| Open File-Security Warning
This message on opening a network EXE is driving me crazy. One workstation has XP with IE7. I have tried every regisitry edit, security edit, open edit etc. I could find available and still no luck. I have seen hundreds of posts about this. Anyone have something new to try? Thanks |

The machine from which the exe originated is not recognized as in the local intranet zone, or the local intranet zone has had its security settings changed from their defaults. The behavior troubling you is controlled by the settings you can find in the Security tab within the Internet Option in the Tools dropmenu within IE. Hi Fred, maybe this will help. I had the same trouble and finally realized I had to use the following syntax for the launch properties of the shortcut: "\\servername\path\program.exe" rather than "drivealias:\path\program.exe". You can leave the IE7 security settings alone :). Regards, Marg "Fred Roven" wrote: > This message on opening a network EXE is driving me crazy. One workstation > has XP with IE7. | Re: Open File - Security Warning To remove those annoying security warnings you must follow these easy steps - 1- Open in the windows explorer "C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop" 2- Remember the names of the programs or files you want to remove the security warning (I recommend using notepad because it's easier to remember that way) 3- Delete all the program shortcuts from the desktop 4- Open the Program Files folder on My Computer 5- With the names you wrote down in notepad search the application in the Program Files folder 6- Copy the program or file and in your desktop right click and select "Paste Shortcut" 7- After you pasted all the programs on the desktop open the "C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop" folder and paste all of them in the desktop. 8- You will now see that you have the program copied twice on the desktop, open them both and delete or send to the recycle bin the one which pops up the security warning (Note* This would *_NOT_* delete the program or application) 9- Try opening the program or file and see if it works. If it doesn't work redo the steps again. Enjoy! -- chumvp |
