| Very Concerned Windows Update
Very weird and I can't find any documentation on the net what the Windows Update 7.0.6000.381 was suppose to do. When I went to look at uninstalling it, it's not listed in the installed updates area. I have a Windows Vista PC. Does anyone know what this Windows Update is doing/fixed? Background: It appears my Windows Update was automatically updated 22 Aug 07, but there is no update to uninstall. For some reason my OneCareLive went red status and then when I went to look at my OneCareLive settings it told me auto updates was turned off. When I looked at the auto updates setting it showed automatic was turned on and then immediately my OneCareLive settings went green again. Kip |

Hello Kip, The update in question updated the Windows Update software itself, ie the software that makes Windows Update work. There is no cause to be alarmed. -- Jane, not plain ;) 64 bit enabled :-) Batteries not included. Here's what it does and what files are included: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932494 The files for your system are *probably* listed under File information - x86-based versions of Windows If not, check the x64 listings. I have cause to be alarmed, after this update got installed, my IE does not work anymore. I run Vista Ultimate and this Windows Update software and KB938194 was installed, IE no longer displays any sites. All it says is that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I am able to connect to my work vpn, MSN IM works, but no IE!! I installed FireFox, that doesn't work either. I uninstalled KB938194, rebooted, and still no browsers. Did this mess with port 80 or something? My only recourse is to go back to a previous version when this update was not installed. Any idea on how to prevent it from installing again or better yet uninstall it and never install again? Hello Gregg, If you are referring to the Windows Update 7.0.6000.381 update, then no, it cannot be uninstalled. Without it, Windows Update will not work, as the update server expects that version to be installed, and will notify you that in order to use Windows Update, you must install it. Your internet connection issues may well have been due to KB938194. What type of internet connection do you have? Are you behind a router? Do you have any 3rd party antivirus/firewall software installed? -- Jane, not plain ;) 64 bit enabled :-) Batteries not included. Ah some Norton Internet security app that came with my laptop. I removed it and I'm back up and running. Funny thing, it was only a 30 day trial which ended well over 2 months ago, but yet it still messed with either port 80 or something else (even fire fox couldn't browse). Oh well, much thanks (Jane C too ) :) "PA Bear" wrote: > What Norton application are you running? > -- > ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear), working offline > MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) > AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org > > Gregg wrote: > > I have cause to be alarmed, after this update got installed, my IE does > > not > > work anymore. You're welcome. Be sure you run the Norton Removal Tool to remove all the leftovers: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Gregg wrote: > Ah some Norton Internet security app that came with my laptop.
