| generic host process for win32 error message
I've been getting the generic host process for win32 error message on a newly installed Dell XP Pro system came with SP2. First thing did was download all of the Windows critical updates. I can't tell it it's a vulnerability or something else causing the error. I also had installed eTrust antivirus corp. edition, FireFox 1.0.2 browser, SpyBot Search & Destroy 1.3. I've run scans with all of them and didn't pickup anything. Also run Trend Micro's online scanner, Symantec's, etc. System was setup Monday, and I saw no problems. Turned the pc on the next day, and at boot saw the message: "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needed to close. This error occurred on 3/28/05 at 4:28:41 PM. " I shut down, and did not see the error again. I shut down a few times I think. Turned the pc on today, all was fine. Ran FireFox browser, etc. Shutdown with no problems. Turned system back on, and the error displayed again after loading the desktop. Thanks for any help |

WindowsXPSP2 plus automatic updates. That very same message has also appeared on booting my computer. First time a few days ago. Second time today. My computer is NAV protected and spy/malware apps show it is clean. Is this the symptom of a new stealth baddie? Is this serious? No problems noticed otherwise. | Re: generic host process for win32 error message
Jay, Colin, an MVP told me to try this: Please post to the group so that others can benefit from the thread. Try running the System File Checker. Start>Run and enter sfc /scannow [enter] Note the space before the /. I ran that and it cruched for a while. After half an hour, I walked away. Whe I came back, there wasn't a report or anything on the screen. It had exited. So i'm not sure if that is how it is supposed to run on now, and I don't know if it picked up anything. I can say even before I ran that, I booted up today, ran FireFox & other programs, shut down, and did not see the error message today. I shut down several times. If anyone has more info please post it. Thanks.. |
