Access Denied - Msconfig Startup Changes

I am trying to remove some programs from startup file. But not able to get it work properly. When I remove tick and click on OK I am getting access denied error. I cannot remove or disable any startup services. I am not able to work on the same. I am logged in as Admin. I am having only one admin account in my system. Still that is giving me this error. Before I do not use to keep any password, but I added one recently so that I can only use my system. Does that has created issue.

Do this create a new account in your system and give it full admin rights. Then try to launch msconfig and disable startup applications. I am sure that there is a virus in your system which is causing this problem. Virus infection disable user rights. That is the reason you are getting that error. You can start with system restore and if that does not work then take data backup first and then run repair setup. It would be helpful.

I am getting the same error. I have installed HP all in one printer in my system. It came with some set of utilities. When the system starts the utility also starts. It take a bit time to get proper desktop. Also there were other things like the chat messenger and internet download manager. Msconfig loads up properly but it does not allow me to disable anything. Also I cannot run Task Manager. Scanned by system with antivirus but found nothing. Later on I scanned again with malwarebytes and there are number of infections detected. I had to format the system to get rid of them complete.

When I was facing the same error I thought it is some kind of driver problem. So I checked everything, performed windows update, but nothing happened. The virus still remained in my system. There was constant error on the screen. I downloaded a third party software which does the same job. It removes the application that loads on the startup. It worked. But still this is a problem. This is simply not a bug. It is due to infection and that is straight enough. You can get that back to work by using System Restore. But it works only for few time.

I had a similar problem. the issues were
    a) restarting the system when msconfig was changed and not deleting the registry entry
    b) ALso trojanware that inserted entries back in msconfig-> startup

It is a trojan. I had downloaded a game from torrent. It was installed properly and at last for activation I had run a keygen. When I double clicked on that my antivirus showed up a warning. I ignored that. The game was activated and running fine, but screwed my entire system. It started working slow. I cannot launch Task Manager nor I can disable applications for msconfig. At last I had to format the computer. There was no other way to deal with the problem.
