| Unknown Publisher Security Warning
I have just swapped laptops from a Dell with XP Home to a Dell with XP Pro. When I try to open MS Access Applications on a network share that I have written and which worked ok on XP Home laptop, I get the above warning and cannot open the application. If I go to the location where the files reside ie c:\docs & settings\all users\shared docs\ then I can open the files ok. Other files such as MS Word or Excel are ok but then they are not executeable. I have no Group Policy settings and at present and I am the sole administrator and user. I assume that the problem, is associated with the applications not being digitally signed, Can anyone offer any addvice on how to resolve this situation. Thanks |

Try using the IE security settings to define the machine from which the share is received as being part of the Intranet. |

| Re: Unknown Publisher Security Warning
Roger Thanks for the response. That appears to be the culprit. It appears that any setting at IE7\Tools\I Options\Security\L Intranet above Medium-Low causes the situation I described. Setting the option at Medium-Low has solved the problem. As I use Mozilla across my network it should not be a security problem. However I do wonder why yet again an MS update/download can cause such a problem in a seemingly unassociated area. I would never have thought of looking in IE mainly as I never use it. Many thanks for your steer on the problem. |

| Re: Unknown Publisher Security Warning
I believe it was the IE 7 install, rather than any update, that caused this issue for you. The docs on changes to be expected with IE do discuss changes to the zone settings, but most people do not realize that the Internet Zones and their settings are used for more than just IE browsing actions. |

good stuff! using the info mentioned, it seems to have thwarted the use of ULTRAREACH (u94.exe or whatever it's been renamed to) on our network. the app is prevented from launching under Windows. many thanks |
