http://IP of CA/certsrv fails to open with "Page not found" error

I have got a default webpage for certificate services called //localhost/certsrv which actually fails to open and gives an error message of "404 page not found". Even after trying all variations for the localhost and including the IP address, localhost and server name it wont work. So I am unable to request the certificates with the help of GUI and note that I am also logged in with fill admin rights and I can generate certificates via the CLI on this CA. Any ideas?

Could you tell us whether this is a new installation and was it workinf at some point before as well? What happens when you try to open IIS MMC which is listed under "Default Web Site", do you get a directory called the certsrv?

Re: http://IP of CA/certsrv fails to open with "Page not found" er

I agree that it is a new installation and the http certsrv has never in my life worked for me. If I go to type MMC at a command prompt then an empty window will open, And under IIS I can see that there is a default website but there is no MMC directory or certsrv directory. Thanks for the replies by the way.

Have you tried to install IIS before you installed Certificate Services? You should try to open the IIS management console for Administrative Tools and look for a Certsrv website. After that just try to run the certutil -vroot in the command prompt and then all will be fine, and you also wont have to reinstall the Certificate Services.
