Windows Defender error -- Application failed to install 0x800106ba

I am getting 0x800106ba error when I try to start Windows Defender. The entire error is - Application failed to install 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender service to stop. I am not able to run and scan my system. I am using a antivirus, but my friend suggested that it is a good antimalware applications. I need some help to use this in my system. I am using Windows XP here. This create doubts in my mind that if this is not able to install then there will be some kind of infection in my system.

It can be due to some update which is causing the problem. Even I had faced the same but downloaded a small fix from Microsoft website that really worked. I had provided the link below. There is a small fix provided on the website. Download that run it. It will wipe out some incompatible file.

Defender works fine, but I do not find it more effective. It is better if you locate some nice antivirus and then run scan through that. Malware are most common today. They can easily infect your system. You can try re-downloading Microsoft Defender and then see whether it works well or not. Another thing you can do is install Malwarebytes in your system. This is another effective anti-malware software which is capable of giving you more better output and security.
