Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage (error message)

I am using Windows Vista laptop and facing very strange problem. Until I was using 32bit Internet Explorer I was not able to open any website. Every time I use to get an error message saying “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”. After struggling a lot somebody suggested me to remove 32bit and install 64bit Internet explorer. Surprisingly 64bit works fine on this system, no error.

But as my system is 32 bit I want to use 32bit browser itself. As far as the error is concerned, I followed every steps mentioned in KB article describing the same error here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196/en-us, but nothing worked.

Do you guys have any idea what could be the reason and how can I fix it? Please help.

As you have posted the Internet Explorer problem in Security newsgroup, should i consider it as virus / malware problem? Is your PC infected with any threat? Also did you checked your proxy settings ? If not, check it and reset all settings.

One of my colleague has this problem long ago on this computer. He fixed his problem by running a script. How ever we don’t remember exactly what we have did that time but we found the source that helped us in past. Just check this thread and create bat file by OnyXxl as mentioned over there. This should help by repairing your 32-bit IE8

Re: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage (error message)

We had this problem in our office with several systems just a month ago. In our case, all our systems were running with Norton Internet Security that we need to remove due to some reason. And after that we were not able to open any page with “http”, however there was no problem accessing ftp, telnet and even https. It was sure that though we removed it but the Norton’s firewall part was interfering with http.

Hence we download Norton Removal tool and uninstalled it completely from the system. Remember, though you remove any antivirus through Add/remove program, they wont get uninstalled completely from your system. you need to remove them with their own removal tool. We did it and the problem solved.
