| Trojan downloader:JS/Renos and Why doesn't microsoft detect my act
I ran the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and it found the Trojan Downloader: JS/Renos. It doesn't remove it. It keeps saying it detected it but it was not removed. When I try to use Windows Defender or the Free PC Scan it tells me Activex is not enabled. I have had this problem for over a year. I have done everything it tells me to do and it always says activex is not enabled. Active works on all the other sites when it is needed. I have IE 8 now but it was a problem with IE 7 also. |

So does the same thing happen when you reboot into Safe Mode (F-8) and do a scan to then eradicate the pest? <http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm> Finally, run the window security Trojan scan here: http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/ Remove any Trojans found, and restart your computer. |

| Re: Trojan downloader:JS/Renos and Why doesn't microsoft detect my act
Your computer may be infected with a newer W32/Renos-variant (e.g., Renos.IO) that isn't in the MSRT's database (yet). There is a very good chance that you are seeing the effects of a hijackware infection! NB: If you had no anti-virus application installed or the subscription had expired *when the machine first got infected* and/or your subscription has since expired and/or the machine's not been kept fully-patched at Windows Update, don't waste your time with any of the below: Format & reinstall Windows. A Repair Install will NOT help! 1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan! You may need to download the MSRT on a non-infected machine, then transfer MRT.EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN.EXE before running it. 2. [WinXP ONLY!! =>] Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm 3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested logs in an appropriate forum, not here. Checking for/Help with Hijackware **Seek expert assistance in or other appropriate forums.** If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop. |

| Re: Trojan downloader:JS/Renos and Why doesn't microsoft detect my act
Thank you for the replies. I cleaned the temp files and history and that done the job for the Trojan. I should have done that before but I wasn't thinking. I didn't explain that the two things I mentioned were seperate issues. The Microsoft site doesn't detect my activex. That has been going on for over a year. It gives me instructions to turn on my activex but I have already done that. I can go to other sites and I get a message at the top of my browser asking if I want to allow the activex on that page. But no matter what I do it doesn't work on the Microsoft site. Another problem I had was when I clicked on the link to read and rate the response that you gave me I got a blank page. I had to search for this posting. Thanks for the help. Jeannie |

| Trojan downloader:JS/Renos and Why doesn't microsoft detect my activation
This will probably not be your solution but it is easy and can't huяt to try. Open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any BHO's that you don't recºgnize. <http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/data/addons.htm> You can also use the System Explorers in Microsoft Antispyware to look at BHO's and block them--it also shows known and unknown fºr BHO's.. <http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_addonmanager.mspx> . I hope this post is helpful. |

It could be that it is being blocked by the downloader... Try going to Kaspersky... |
