Not enough information to get focused help.

How do you connect to the Internet? Method, ISP, network type (home,
standalone, connected to router, directly to modem, etc.)? Type of
computer? Make/model/desktop/laptop? Type of network hardware? Can you
connect with Firefox?

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new, what changed
between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

Re: problem reports and solution page not responding

Hi I connect to the internet using a wireless bt home hub. The laptop is a
Toshiba satellite. I have latest Norton antivirus and firewall and have
scanned my PC using windows defender. There are no reported virus or malware.

I am using vista home edition, when trying to use the problem reports and
solutions from within the maintenance window.

IE7 intermittently does not respond but closing down the browser solves
this. My concern is why is the problem and solution option not responding,
nothing happens when I select it from Start menu

Thanks

OK, there are reallly two issues here - IE not responding and the Problem
Reports not working.

For the first:

1. Test by installing and using an alternate browser such as Firefox. This
will help determine whether the problem resides in IE or in the system in
general relating to Internet connectivity.

2. Also try running IE in no-add-ons mode. If this solves the problem with
IE, then you know one of the third-party add-ons you've installed is the
culprit. Enable them one at a time until you find the problem child and
then uninstall it.

MS webpage explaining add-ons: http://tinyurl.com/2tro8f

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer?s (No Add-ons) Mode -
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

3. For the issue with Problem Reports, Start Orb>Search box>type:
wercon.exe. When wercon.exe appears in Results above, right-click and
choose "run as administrator". Does the Problem Reports & Solutions applet
run now?

Are the necessary services running?

Start Orb>Search box>type: Services. When Services appears in Results above,
right-click it and choose "run as administrator". Is the Problem Reports
and Solutions Control Panel Support service running? If not, start it and
set to automatic. Test now.

Again, please try and answer The First Question of Troubleshooting - If the
problem is new, what changed between the time things worked and the time
they didn't?

If this is a very recent change (last day or two), you can try a System
Restore to when things worked.

You can also make sure system files are not damaged. Start Orb>Search
box>type: cmd. When cmd appears in Results above, right-click and choose
"run as administrator". The command prompt will now appear. At the prompt,
type: sfc /scannow [enter].

That should give you a few troubleshooting steps to try. After you've done
this, come back with the results.

Re: problem reports and solution page not responding

Malke

Regards the Problem Reports not working.

wercon.exe appears and is running as administrator. no change

Services - restarted the prob and solutions control panel, and set to auto -
tried to run but still does not show the panel. (in services shows as started
and auto)

I have run the scannow and it says to refer to a windows\log\cbs.log but
will not let me have access. I am logged on as administrator. How can I open
this file to get you the info?

The only thing I have installed recently is the console for Sony Media
Manager v3.0 for my sons PSP. The laptop is set to auto update with Microsoft

I dont know when the problem occurred but noticed it last night.

Hope this helps and I appreciate your support

And if you bypass the hub and connect directly to the modem, what happens?

Unfortunately, that does not necessarily mean the machines free of any/all
hijackware, Nobby.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

Checking for/Help with Hijackware

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjunction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachi...php?board=10.0,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

Re: problem reports and solution page not responding

Hi

Tried a system report but no success. I have noticed that the wercon.exe
works using other accounts on the laptop. I am using admin and it does not. I
have also seen somewhere in the perf and monitor that it says the service is
stopped, but in services it is started.

Any ideas?
