HELP - Security sites and Windows Update blocked - other sites available

There was some kind of spyware or virus attack on my friends computer which was something called as AntiVirus XP 2008. What happend is that, on his desktop a picture popped up automatically and afterwards it said that the system has a virus and also he has to click on it so that the virus can be removed and after he clicked the problem started. After trying out Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware, still it is present in the computer. Is there anyone who can solve this issue? Thanks

You can follow the below workaround to remove the AntiVirus XP 2008 from your computer:
    1. First of all start your computer in Safe Mode
    2. After that you have to find location of the file
    3. Now you need to right click on the file and delete
    4. After that you have to open Control Panel and then go to Add/Remove area
    5. Now click Remove for the program (This will only work in Safe Mode)
    6. After that perform a search by clicking Start, Search and run a search on all files and folders for your hard drive
    7. Now you hve to delete all associated files with the name (Antivirus XP 2008) and associated files
    8. And then only run whatever antivirus program you have while in Safe Mode. This is just a good general practice as it actually sped my computer up.

Re: vundo obstructing me for updates..please please help meeeeeeee

Antivirus XP 2008 is usually gives a false message, urging you to buy Antivirus XP 2008, Antivirus 2008 or Antivirus Vista 2008. I do not know what will happen after the purchase, but it is strongly recommended you should not buy it. You need to stop the processes of Antivirus XP 2008:

    1. Click "Ctrl + Alt + Delete", then click the "Task Manager." You can also start the Task Manager instantly if you press Ctrl + Shift + ESC simultaneously. This is much easier than accessing it from Ctrl + Alt + Delete or tasks. It works on both Windows XP and Windows Vista.

    2. Select the process you want to stop, and then click "End Process." for the following processes:
    vav.exe
    XPAntivirus.exe
    XPAntivirusUpdate.exe
    xpa.exe
    xpa2008.exe
    braviax.exe

Find and delete the files of Antivirus XP 2008:

    1. Start -> Search, and then click "Files or Folders ..."

    2. "What do you look for?" - "All files and folders"

    3. Type a file name in the search field and select "Local Hard Drives" (usually C: drive)

    4. Click "Search" and then delete these files:

    xpa.exe
    vav.exe
    xpa2008.exe
    xpa_2008.exe
    XPAntivirus.exe
    braviax.exe
    XPAntivirusUpdate.exe
    XPAntivirus.lnk
    Remove XPAntivirus.lnk
    XPAntivirus on Web.lnk
