Try removing"unusual" auto-starting entries. You can use, among other possible methods, either msconfig or autoruns (SysInternals) to accomplish this. -- ....Badz... I am also having the same exact issue and I know that the whole thing is caused by spyware. The spyware issue is a whole other issue altogether, but I get the same error message and cannot enable automatic updates. Hoping someone will come along on this post and offer us a solution! HELP! And if so, does anyone know if it works with Avast? Fixed the problem for me also, wonder where > microsoft help has been. hi i have also been having this problem , i used the avira antivirus software it is great it scanned 1000's more files than avg and sorted out the problem you can download it from avira.com and its free. when you have finished the scan and deleted you infected files re run service.msc if you dont know how to do this go to the microsoft update it will say it cant do updates because the automatic updater is not working but gives instructions to fix the problem. i hope this makes sense because it worked for me |
