windows 2008 machine joining problem

In test environment i installed Win2K sp4. in this test domain win2k8 is not
joining. In same test domain when i joined windows xp machine it joined.

also from win2k8 without joining when i tried to ping with domain.com it is
not resolving.

however with ping domaincontroller with servername responding

Pease note that before i made naptest domain then i reinstalled windows
2000 server from stratch. and installed active directory withname napt.com.

In win2k8 at time of joining when i give domain.com then it is giving error
without asking for logon and error related to srv records.

but when i entered only domain without .com then it is asking for user id
and password and then error is coming that specified server was unable to
perform the operation(not exact message).

It is strange behaviour.
Same windows 2k8 machine able to join a live environment but unbale to join
my test enviroment.
also another windows XP machine i tried to join in test domain it is working
fine.
Also from windows xp machine when i run nltest utility it sucessed. But from
windows 2k8 machine error.

Hello Faisal,

First check that no firewall is running on the 2008 server. Check that you
can ping with ip address, servername and FQDN of the server. If all 3 are
succesful run ipconfig /flushdns on on the 2008 server. Is the 2008 still
member of the old domain? Then change to workgroup and try joining again.

This sounds like a dns issue. Validate the W2K8 machine has a reference to
the test dns server.

Try pinging the test dc from W2K8 machine both with the host name and the ip
address, if either fails. Go to your test environments dns server and
validate you have host records for all the machines involved.

Alternatively you can try setting up

testdomain.com ipaddress

on your host file. That should let you ping to testdomain.com.
