install win2k on formatted hard drive without cd-rom support?

I have a cpu without cd-rom nor ability to have bootable usb port. Have
notebook style hard drive. Bios does not cupport ide cd-rom. Need to install
from scratch win2k to this hard drive. Installed Win2k on another notebook,
but it does not like it when it is re-installed and booted on the targeted
cpu. Get an error "stop-0x000007b inaccessible_boot_Device". Treid to install
from floppies but it still requires cd-rom at end of install. Found a patch
at Microsft website that i thought addressed my issue and installed on
hardrive through another computer but did not help!. Would appreciate any
info on this unique cirmcustance!!! Help

The unit likely came with the recovery "image" on the hard drive in a
special partition. Contact the computer manufacturers tech support.

By far the easiest way is to buy a CD drive and connect it to
your PC. They cost very little and you will need it all the time.
If you're reluctant to spend the money then you can do this:

1. Create a 10 GByte active primary FAT32 partition on the
2.5" disk.
2. Copy the Win2000 CD to the \i386 folder on this disk.
3. Put the 2.5" disk back into the problem PC.
4. Boot the problem PC with a Win98 boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com.
4. Type these commands:
smartdrv{Enter}
c:\i386\winnt{Enter}
5. Follow the prompts. Do NOT allow the primary partition
to be formatted!
FYI: "CPU" stands for "Central Processing Unit". It is the
engine inside your PC. When talking about your whole
computer, the word "PC" is normally used, not the word "CPU".

You cannot install on another notebook
then transfer the drive...the hardware will be different.

What you can do is put the drive back in the other notebook and format the
drive as FAT32
then copy the cd to it.
next use a win9x boot disk and make the drive bootable by issuing the
command sys C:

also from the win9x boot disk copy over smartdrv.exe

If smartdrv.exe is not on the boot floppy you should be able to get if from
any win9x cd or installation.

Now put the drive back in the other notebook and the drive should boot to
the C: prompt

If you have smartdrv in the root directory just issue the command : smartdrv

Note: without loading smartdrv the win2k installation will take forever...if
it completes at all

Now navigate to the Winnt folder and issue the command: winnt

the win2k installation should now begin

Once it's installed...you can convert the drive to NTFS if so desired

Also note: I have done this several times and can confirm that it works...
this is not just theory!
