Maximum USB Hard Drive side for FAT32 file format

What can be the maximum limit for external usb drive if formatted in FAT32 format. I am having a 120GB hard drive. I formatted in FAT32 format but it stucks at 97%. There is a error message on the screen saying the volume is too big. I am using Windows 2000 here. I want to configure the drive for data backup. But stucked on the formatting part.

I think the limit is around 32GB maximum. It is the limitation of OS you are using. There are some third party software available on web. That will allow you to format the drive in the file partition format you want. I will recommend you to with NTFS. As it is better and faster compared to older file format. Also the same drive will be helpful for you to work on other system also.

Yes there are some third party software that are capable of helping you to get the rigth formatting size in Windows. For older OS there is always limitation of formatting the system. But OS like Windows XP can be cross the limit. It will only work if your motherboard is capable of doing the same.
