Webcam driver

Not sure if this is the best place to post about this but if not I'm sure
I'll be redirected.

I bought a USB webcam via Ebay, item is still viewable at
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
if you want to see it.

It was shipped from Hong Kong and I can't get it to work, I've emailed
vendor who says they are sorting out another disc
'cos they think the disc was damaged but the problem is more complicated.

The installation file on CD rom has an odd name it displays as '?? USB
2.0_vE5.5.5.18.1.exe' trying to run this has no effect,
it does nothing. I had the idea to copy it to my HD, rename it to setup.exe
which worked fine and all seemed to be working well, device manager showed
the camera and everything showed it to be working fine, until I tried to run
any programs that used a webcam. These programs (netmeeting, messenger,
amcap etc) just froze for 10 mins and eventually shut themselves down. But
still device manager showed it to be fine.

I tried removing the camera its device entry, the software and redoing it,
now I still can't get it to work and now device manager shows a yellow
exclamation mark and the properties show that 'program cannot launch'. And
programs just have webcam functions greyed out.

I've emailed several other purchasers of same item and 3 have responded that
they have the same problem.

I'm no expert but the camera is shown in device manager etc as Ë÷¶û USB2.0
USB\VID_0C45&PID_627B\5&34528AB3&0&1

Are these funny characters before USB a possible reason for it not
working????

Is there any way to remove the Ë÷¶û part??

I have seen postings where people discuss editing inf files to get cameras
working, is this possible???

Curiously the file name ?? USB 2.0_vE5.5.5.18.1.exe changed into ç´¢å°" USB
2.0_vE5.5.5.18.1.exe after I pasted the name into an email to Hong Kong and
it was returned to me in the reply and the device name changed from Ë÷¶û
USB2.0 USB\VID_0C45&PID_627B\5&34528AB3&0&1 to ;Ã<÷¶û USB2.0
USB\VID_0C45&PID_627B\5&34528AB3&0&1.

Is it possible the entry name Ë÷¶û or ;Ã<÷¶à is confusing the system and
where does this info stem from.

any ideas gratefully recieved

TIA

Tim W

Re: Webcam driver

Check the manufacturer's web site for a driver.

RE: Webcam driver

Hi

I bought the same camera during my trip to HongKong. Unfortunately my disc
was empty so no camera driver is available. I don't even have the name of the
manufacturer, just the Windows XP information:
USB\VID_0C45&PID_627B\5&313FF7EA&0&4

can you help?
big thanks
peter
