Error DCOM 10010 on Windows 2000 Server login

How to deal with this DCOM error on Windows 2000 Server. I am getting the same while accessing it. I had installed all new updates and security patches on it. I am sure there would not be any problem related to that. The Error ID is 10010. What should I do to fix the issue. I am still not able to get login due to that error.

The error looks to with system registry. The error also reduces your system performance. There is nothing much you can do. I found a basic registry settings but that can be complicated and if something wrong happens then there will be more errors.

Run Windows Update. That will make your system work properly. Update fixes a number of thing. But as you said your login failed. You might be able to still access the same in safe mode. Running the repair setup of Windows Server will be far more better and it will offer you better support.

    Event ID 10010 DCOM

An old post but thought I'd mention how I solved this as the process may help someone even if the fault is different.

This was the error: "The server {204810B9-73B2-11D4-BF42-00B0D0118B56} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."

I searched the registry for the {...} reference and found the key:

    "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{204810b9-73b2-11d4-bf42-00b0d0118b56}"

I searched for this and found Microsoft info explaining that it "registers the COM coclass for the UPnPRegistrar interface." (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms907987.aspx)

I was lucky because the same info gave a sub-key which was missing from the registry. I created the sub-key as described, saved the registry and rebooted.

No more DCOM error in Event Viewer.
