0x80070569: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

Hi.
In a Windows 2000 domain, I defined a domain user (dom\StartTask)
member of Domain Users and Users domain group with password never
expires and set in Domain Security Policy 'Deny Access to this computer
from the network' and 'Deny logon
locally'. After this, in a member server (Server01), I create a
scheduled task and associate with defined user.
The task doesn't run and in View Log I see the following message:
----
"xxxx.job" (xxxx.bat) 12/22/2005 11:59:59 AM ** ERROR **
The attempt to log on to the account associated with the task failed,
therefore, the task did not run.
The specific error is:
0x80070569: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this computer.
Verify that the task's Run-as name and password are valid and try
again.
----
In Event Viewer (Security) the event :
Logon Failure:
Reason: The user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this machine
User Name: StartTask
Domain: dom
Logon Type: 4
Logon Process: Advapi
Authentication Package: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0
Workstation Name: Server01
----
The strange think is that after I reset the password, the scheduled
task works.
Could you help me?

Sounds like you need to change the local security policy to allow it to log
on as a service. This should be the same location as the other rights you
set.

user rights\log on as a service

Logon Type: 4 = logon as batch job so normally it would be; Control
Panel|Admin Tools|Local Security Policy\Local Policies\User Rights
Assignments and add the user to "Log on as a batch job" on the target
machine.

It seems that every other scheduled backup I set does not run, with errors
in the Scheduled Tasks log such as this:

"Tape #2.job" (NTBACKUP.EXE) 3/27/2007 5:00:00 PM ** ERROR **
The attempt to log on to the account associated with the task
failed, therefore, the task did not run.
The specific error is:
0x80070569: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the
requested logon type at this computer.
Verify that the task's Run-as name and password are valid and
try again.

This didn't happen before the DST Daylight Saving time patches.
Are these two connected?
I can run the backups immediately, and some of the scheduled backups run.
There is never anything in the event log when it says "could not run" in
scheduled tasks.

I thought that maybe since I set up some backups while sitting at the
server, and others remotely it had made a difference but I tested that
theory and both test batches worked fine.

The user name error is confusing because I only log in as one user name and
when I set the username and password in Backup I use the same credentials.

Any ideas of what may be happening?
Thanks,
Mich

Yes, and sometimes they run, and sometimes they don't. If I am logged and
watching they run, if I'm logged off, it's a toss-up!

What do these error messages indicate?

Are you using Windows firewall?

Make sure your backup is allowed through any firewalls involved. Make sure
the user and password are correct. Yours might not be the right one. Had
that happen where my personal network admin username was rejected, but using
Administrator and its password worked.

I am using the same tape to make 3 system backups. Using Tape #4, I
scheduled backups called "Tape #4-1" (Wiping out the tape and starting
over), "Tape #4-2" and "Tape #4-3" being appends. The first worked, the
second didn't, the third did, yet as far as I can tell there was no
difference in how they were set up. All were scheduled, all occured when I
was not logged onto the server. This has been happening a lot lately - the
server seems to randomly decide when to do the scheduled tasks (other
repetitive scheduled tasks fail randomly also). The log says:

"Tape #4-1.job" (NTBACKUP.EXE)
Started 4/9/2007 10:34:00 AM
"Tape #4-1.job" (NTBACKUP.EXE)
Finished 4/9/2007 11:45:33 AM
Result: The task completed with an exit code of (0).
"Tape #4-2.job" (NTBACKUP.EXE) 4/9/2007 4:00:00 PM ** ERROR **
The attempt to log on to the account associated with the task failed,
therefore, the task did not run.
The specific error is:
0x80070569: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested
logon type at this computer.
Verify that the task's Run-as name and password are valid and try again.
"Tape #4-3.job" (NTBACKUP.EXE)
Started 4/9/2007 4:08:00 PM

What on earth is happening here?
Thanks,
Mich

Re: 0x80070569: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

I had been facing this issue for long - I had programmed a batch file to keep track of a shared folder's file changes . After running fine for 2 months It suddenly stopped running. The status would be 'Could not start'. From the 'Advanced' toolbar option -> View Log in Scheduled tasks folder I could see the error log was:

** ERROR **
The attempt to log on to the account associated with the task failed, therefore, the task did not run.
The specific error is:
0x80070569: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.
Verify that the task's Run-as name and password are valid and try again.

I was running this from a Virtual Machine which is never logged of. I connect to this remote machine via Citrix.

I saw some solutions in the internet and tried them all in vain - like giving log on as batch job access right, create global objects access , logon as a service...

The solution I found out is - to check the box in the scheduled tasks wizard asking 'Run only If I have logged on'. On selecting this the scheduled tasks password box will go greyed out, and the tasks will run without each time verifying the password and failing. This worked in my case.

i would like to suggest you to make account "Log on as batch job" rights in the Local Computer Policy and after that go through your issue. first make click on the start icon the desktop and after that click on the run. now on the run type Gpedit.msc and after that hit the ok button. now you will get the windows and under that go to the Local Computer Policy and after that Computer Configuration and then Windows Settings. now on the Windows Settings go to the Security Settings and then Local Policy. now on the Local Policy go to the User Rights and then make as Log on as a batch job.
